Fine Area Rug Care
Much of what we do at Fiber Protection Services, Inc. is as much an art as it is a science, and must be performed in a controlled environment. Area rugs are taken offsite and cared for in our own facility, where each rug is given individual, customized attention and care from pre-inspection through completion.
Rugs are washed individually, eliminating the chance of cross-contamination with other rugs. This is especially important when handling pet urine or water damaged rugs. The detergent solutions we use are safe for wool and other specialty fibers like silk, viscose, and tencel. We don't stop rinsing until the rinse water runs clear because we want your rugs returned to your home residue free and safe for children and pets to play on.

Cleaning and Odour Control
Pre-Inspecting
Each rug that comes to us for cleaning is given a thorough pre-inspection. We look at fiber type, construction, dye stability, stains, and any visible damage that may affect our cleaning approach. When we take the time to inspect each of these things carefully, we are able to design a care protocol that is best for each individual rug.
Dry Particulate Soil Removal
We may employ a number of different methods to remove the particulate soils from your rug, depending on the amount of soil found at the base of the fibers, and the durability or fragility of the rug. Because everything we do is hands-on, we are able to remain flexible in our approach, while still removing as much soil as possible before washing.
Rug Washing
Rugs are always washed individually, eliminating any chance of cross-contamination with other rugs. This is especially important when handling pet urine or water damaged rugs. The detergent solutions we use are safe for wool and other specialty fibers like silk, viscose, and tencel. We don't stop rinsing until the rinse water runs clear because we want your rugs returned to your home residue free and safe for children and pets to play on!
Learn why it's important to have your rugs properly cleaned outside the home and to never let a carpet cleaner clean your rugs in your home.
Pet Odour Control
Our pet stain removal process eradicates the odour causing bacteria that pet stains leave behind. We GUARANTEE that our pet odour control treatment will remove embarrassing pet odours from your rugs, and that your rugs will be fresh, clean, and restored to a healthy state!
When a rug is brought into our studio with noticeable pet urine odour, or just a suspicion of pet urine deposits, we use black light technology which causes the pet stained areas to glow. This allows us to specifically target the source of the odour-causing bacteria and completely eliminate embarrassing pet urine odours.
Protection & Prevention
Fiber Protection with FiberProtect™
Our FiberProtect stain and fiber protection is designed to impregnate each fiber with protection, rather than simply coating the outside of the fibers, allowing for better stain repellency and soil release.
FiberProtect™ is durable enough to withstand professional cleaning, but it should be “boosted” every 2-3 years to keep it from breaking down in the highest traffic areas. It can be used on virtually any fiber type, and will not alter the texture, colour, or feel of the fibers. All FiberProtect™ purchases include a Stain Kit for spot cleaning at home.
Rug Pads
Rug pads perform several functions - they absorb wear, which helps extend the life of a rug, they give a cushioned feel under foot, and rug pads help protect the floors under the rug by filtering away tracked-on soils. A good rug pad will need replacing every 3-5 years, and more often if your pets have accidents on your rugs. We will even custom cut a new rug pad to fit the unique shape of your rug!
Moth Treatment
The GTA sees its fair share of wool moth activity. If you have seen these tiny tan coloured pests flying around your home, or see visible signs of moth damage, call us! We'll come to your home and perform an inspection. If we find any current moth activity, we will contain and remove the affected textiles for cleaning.
Always remember to have a preventative moth treatment professionally applied before storing your rugs for any length of time - especially during Spring and Autumn, when moth activity is at its peak.
Repair & special Care
Colour Correction & Dye Bleed Repair
Dye bleed damage and UV fading are some of the most common issues we correct every day. Our skilled colour correction technicians will match the original colours of your rug as closely as possible, and the dyes we use are permanent, so no need to worry about the colour repair not holding. In fact, we GUARANTEE it!
Conservation & Preservation Cleaning
The Bank of Montreal at the behest of Archive Canada has entrusted some of their most fragile textiles to us for colour correction and cleaning! This type of cleaning is meant to help preserve some of our oldest and most fragile museum-quality textiles without compromising their value or condition.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are you able to completely remove the pet urine odour from my rug?
Yes, we offer a 100% Pet Urine Odour Guarantee. If for some reason you are not 100% satisfied with our odour removal results, we will re-do our work for FREE.
Is a rug pad really necessary?
We think so. A decent rug pad will help extend the life of your rug by absorbing wear in the traffic areas. Certain rug pads also help keep rugs from shifting or creeping under foot.
